"Bluesy missives & scorching guitars" JAM Magazine

JAM's Guide to Independents The Music of Florida Artists

Paul Foisy, Widows, Walls, & Doors (12 song CD)***From the disc's moody cover, I was expecting some kind of Gordon Lightfoot-type folkie-but I remember what Otis Redding said about judging books that way. Turns out, that's a wise philosophy since Foisy's album is brimming with old-fashioned Southern rock-bluesy missives with scorching twin lead guitars, and a little bit of twang to pull in some new country folks. The recording quality has that did-it-on-the-weekends homemade vibe, which helps with the roadhouse atmosphere. Foisy could jump on the HORDE stage with no problem, but I doubt that opening for Travis Tritt would be a wise move, given Foisy's noisy growl and the searing guitar attack. Only recommendation would be to rethink the cover graphics (nice as they are) to click with Allman Brothers/Marshall Tucker fans. -Richard Proplesch.
